Large Intestine
*Audio Description*
There are two videos here to help you locate the large intestine and its parts. The first step is to cut into the abdominal cavity, and move the small intestines out of the way, as the large intestine is usually located behind them.
The large intestine begins at the end of the ileum at the ileoceal valve. There are five distinct sections of the large intestine, the spiral colon, ascending, transverse, descending, and sigmoid colons. There is no spiral colon in humans.
The cecum is a sack found at the beginning of the large intestine
and is connected to the ileum of the small intestine. The rectum is the last part of the large intestine, following the sigmoid colon. It ultimately leads to the anus where feces is defecated from the body.
